Ear Wax Removal

We offer a range of different type of wax removal depending on the needs of the individual. The type of wax removal required will be discussed during the initial consultation with the practitioners.

Microsuction Ear Wax Removal

We have specialist training in ear wax removal using microsuction allowing us to offer a fast, safe and high-quality service to adults and children at very competitive prices.

Microsuction is a wax removal technique using a precision suction apparatus to suction unwanted or obstructing skin cells and wax from the ear canal. We use surgical lenses which provide binocular magnification so that the tip of the suction tube is always under direct vision.

This technique differs from standard ear syringing where liquid is squirted into the ear to dislodge the wax. Microsuction is a more precise and gentle technique than ear syringing.

Safe, Quick & Painless

Why is Microsuction better?

Compared to traditional forms of wax removal – ear drops and irrigation or syringing, microsuction is:

  • Safer
  • Quicker
  • Cleaner and Neater
  • Generally better tolerated with less side effects
  • More effective and likely to need only one appointment
  • A faster process as it doesn’t require weeks of ear drops to soften the wax

What to expect from Ear Microsuction?

  • We will talk you through the procedure, show you the equipment and ask you to sign a consent form before we start.
  • The microsuction process can be noisy and occasionally can make you feel dizzy.
  • This usually passes within a few seconds. The procedure can last up to 30 minutes for both ears.

Irrigation Ear Wax Removal

In this method of earwax removal, an electric pump gently flushes warm water into your ear and dislodges the ear wax blockage. Like microsuction, this procedure is painless and comfortable. This method of wax removal is not suitable for individuals with a history of eardrum perforations.

Instrumentation Ear Wax Removal

Instrumentation is a method of manual wax removal that involves using small, specialised tools to scoop and lift wax out of the ear canal, this method of wax removal is only used if a patient’s wax is in the outer ear and not deep inside the ear.
